Cowan Registration

Rules

Be courteous and careful not to send things that annoy people. Also don’t forget that there are kids on the lists.

Use the appropriate list to send messages:

Everybody

is intended for making non-commercial announcements and not for general discussions.

ChewTheFat

is for general discussions.

LostAndFound

is to let everyone know about the cat, dog, sunglasses, trumpet or marbles that you lost or found.

BuySellSwap

was introduced to avoid messages of a commercial nature being sent to Everybody and has specific rules.

BuySellSwap Rules

1) To be a subscriber of the BuySellSwap list you must also be a subscriber of Everybody list. In order to send messages to the list you must be a registered user.

To become a subscriber or registered user please complete the appropriate form.

2) Only registered users are permitted to send notices of a commercial nature and only to the BuySellSwap list.

Messages of a commercial nature must not be sent to the Everybody list. If in doubt either, send it to the BuySellSwap list or contact the Administrator.

3) As method of payment for the BuySellSwap service, anyone who sends a message to the list will be expected to make or obtain a donation for a registered charity, preferably one that supports the local community. The donation must be proportional to the benefit they receive from the service with the minimum being a gold coin.

The Cowan School P&C and the Cowan Rural Fire Brigade are obvious candidates for the donations. The Cowan Community Centre should also be considered. There is no fixed donation amount and it is up to the members of the list to judge if a seller is offering to make a sufficient donation. Consider how much it would cost to advertise the item in a local paper. Even if you don’t sell your item please make a small donation to a local charity.

Another form of payment that should be considered is a genuine discount to members of the Cowan Community on goods or services that you provide through your business.

There is also no reason why the donations shouldn’t go toward a community project that has the general consent of the community. This will be left up to discretion of the members but if it is abused such as collecting for someone’s beer drinking fund (other than the administrator's) then stricter rules will be enforced.

4) The outcome of a message sent to BuySellSwap should be sent in a follow up message to the list.

It is expected that once a transaction is completed then the members of the list will be informed of the outcome and the amount donated to charity.
